A New Me!

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” ‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭ESV‬‬

In my early life, I worked in different sales jobs. I sold cameras, stereos, appliances, men’s clothing, shoes -- a lot of different stuff. There are two things I remember from those experiences; you must believe in the product, and you need to understand what makes it different.

In Colossians 3:1-17, Paul writes about the transformation that happens when we accept Christ. The former things that kept us from God have been washed away and in our spiritual resurrection through Christ, we are reborn as a new being. After this rebirth, we cannot go back to who we once were. We are a new person! This new person is to be compassionate, kind, humble, meek, patient, forgiving, and most of all loving. It is these qualities that differentiate us from the world. While we believe in Jesus, we may often find it difficult to demonstrate to others those things that set us apart. It can be a daily challenge to be “in the world” and not “of the world”. Jesus’ recognized this and sent us a helper, the Holy Spirit, to aid us in the struggle between the old and new self, As representatives of Jesus Christ, let every word we speak, and every action we take, demonstrate to the world the great change he has made in us and also can make in them.

God, thank you for the change you bring about in us. We ask forgiveness, because we know we sometimes fail in demonstrating this change to others. Help us this day, that every word we speak and every action we take, honor and glorify you. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
