"Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise." James 5:13 NIV
Driving home from church yesterday afternoon, I noticed the dark grey skies—the kind of clouds that hold the potential for snow. Way off in the distance, I could see the tiniest patch of sun and clear blue. It caused me to reflect, so often, I find God so easily on those bright sunny days but struggle on those stormy and overcast days. From that, pondering came the unsurprising realization that God is there in both the clouds and the sun. The problem is not with God, but my ability to recognize God in that time and place.
In today's verse, we are encouraged to recognize God in every situation. When we hit that rough patch of stormy weather in our lives, pray. Don't hesitate to go to God with our supplications. He wants us to turn to him in time of trouble and anxiously desires to help. On those bright and sunny days, sing and give praise. Sometimes when everything is going well, we may feel God's goodness but are remiss to say thank you. In all situations, we are to acknowledge God for who he is in our lives.
Loving God, we give thanks for you are with us in every situation. We so often forget who you are; that you fill all time and space. You know in intimate detail the joys and sorrows of each one of us. Yet you desire our conversation with you. To enter into an open and honest dialogue, asking your help in times of need, and giving thanks when things are well. Please help us as we earnestly seek a closer relationship with you. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings!
