Don't Fret

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34 NIV

Growing up in south-central Indiana, folks didn't worry, but they sure fretted. To fret seemed the worst thing in the world to me as a kid. To fret meant to wear away like the banks of a creek or to eat away like a nail in a bottle of Coke. Folks who fretted always had the demeanor of Eeyore in Winnie-the-Pooh with the rain cloud following them. They were always in extreme dismay, not knowing which way to go or turn.

The words of Jesus tell us not to get in that state. Don't fret about tomorrow. Sure, many things will be thrown at you; that day and the day after. But with Christ, we have absolutely no reason to fret. He won't leave us alone, and he's not going to abandon us. He is here for us today, tomorrow, and all the days that follow.

God, thank you for always watching over and providing for us. We confess we often worry about things, sometimes important at other times not, but in all things, you are with us. Please remind us we can always turn to you and help us to place our trust wholly in you, our source of strength and comfort. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
