Fields of Harvest

Writer's picture: timothyrsoutherntimothyrsouthern

Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:37‭-‬38 NIV

If you've ever driven across the United States, you will see miles and miles of crops, corn, soybeans, and wheat. Depending on the month you're going, but typically late July to early October, you're likely to see huge combines working their way through the fields. Imagine harvesting those fields without those machines–all done by workers in the fields.

Now, envision all those acres and acres of crops as souls waiting to know Christ's salvation. But, of course, harvesting souls cannot be done using a machine but has to be done by people. It has to be that way because our salvation is a personal spiritual relationship with our savior, only in sharing our stories of what Christ has done for us and the invitation of what he can do for them that brings in the harvest.

The same gracious God who gives us the bounty will also give us the workers. He gives us the courage, strength, and words to go into the world and find more workers. As each new person takes their place and does the same thing, those few become many, and more even harvesting can be done.

Precious Lord of the harvest, we thank you for the opportunity to serve. Embolden us to go into the fields and share the good news of the salvation found in Jesus Christ. Give us the words so that our words may stir hearts and bring more workers to the field. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
