A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17 NKJV
Yesterday, I wrote about God's good and perfect gifts; among these are friends. Those people whose paths have crossed ours at different times and places and with whom we have formed a special bond. Our friends are not judgemental, and there is no need to pretend to be something we're not; they love us for who we are.
Within those friends are a smaller group, our brothers and sisters–our besties. They may be siblings by blood or others we have adopted into that role. To be considered someone's sibling is a sacred honor and a position of trust. As more than friends, these are the people on speed dial when we face adversity. When we need prayer, they are the folks we call first–our spiritual anchors.
We have another brother in Jesus Christ, our intercessor with the Father. He is our first call when things go south. Our prayers to Him are as personal and comfortable as with any sibling, a simple and earnest plea. So then, our earthly siblings can help offer intercessory prayers and other ways as directed by the Holy Spirit.
Father God, we thank you for our earthly siblings, especially our brother Jesus Christ. When faced with adversity, please help us to remember he's our first call. As trusted siblings, listen to our prayers for others and open our hearts to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
