Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. Colossians 3:16 NRSV
Throughout life, we receive guidance from different sources. As children, we have parental figures. In school, we have teachers. In the working world, we have mentors and colleagues. These folks all helped direct us to become the people we are.
As the inspired word of God, scripture helps direct our spiritual selves; though only one sentence, today's scripture guides how to live as Christians. First, we are asked to let the word of Christ resonate in our being. Let it be absorbed into every fiber so we may understand its meaning. Secondly is to take that wisdom and put it into action; we are to be spiritual guides to each other, encouraging and, when required, admonishing one another. To always be done with the compassion and love of Christ. Lastly, though certainly not least importantly, thank God. Not a muttered thank you, but with sincere and grateful hearts, raise our voices in praise to God. Can't carry a tune in a bucket? No worries, our worship's sincerity will sound like the angelic choir to God's ears.
Gracious and loving God, we come in praise and worship with humble and sincere hearts. We give thanks for your divine word, your blameless Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ, and our Helper, the Holy Spirit. As we read scripture, help us to understand; by its wisdom, help us to live with one another guided by your Spirit. May we constantly be aware of your presence in everything we do and respond with glad hearts. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor TIm
