Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14 NIV
In early religious art, painters would frequently represent images of Christ with a halo. Later, artists began replacing the halo with rays of light. The idea, of course, was to convey Christ's holiness and make him stand out from the other figures in the painting.
It's unlikely we have any family portraits of ourselves with halos. But, if you can find one, I'd love to see it. While we may be minus halos as devoted disciples of Christ, people recognize His light in us. Filled with the Holy Spirit, we are a people set apart from the world – we stand out. Our words and actions reflect Christ's holiness living through us.
Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for the holiness of Jesus Christ living within us through the Holy Spirit. Bless us as we strive to be holy, and may your glory be reflected in our thoughts, words, and deeds. We ask this in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
