"When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you." Isaiah 43:2 NRSV
No surprise to anyone that just because we are disciples of Christ means we are exempted from the turmoil of life. The same financial concerns, sicknesses, and troubles affect us, just like everyone else. It's not "if,” it's "when."
As Christians, we understand that God will not forsake us in time of trouble. When things get tough, he doesn't bail but walks beside us. It is this faith that sustains us even in impossible situations. We have no idea how or when God will intercede, and we do not know the outcome. However, we can face our troubles with the confidence God is beside us; we are not going through it alone.
Loving and compassionate God, we give thanks for being with us in every situation. We don't understand why bad things happen, but we know they aren't from you. You are a God of deliverance, not oppression. You walk by our side through the torrents and flames, providing the comfort and strength we need. Please help us share the joy and hope of your message with others. Help them to experience this promise of inner peace. In Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
When has God walked with you in the past?
