She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. Proverbs 31:25-26 NIV
Happy Mothers' Day to all those amazing women who have birthed, adopted, and fostered us. You held us close in your arms as we cried as infants. You kissed away the hurt of thousands of boo-boos–real and non-existent. Though hungry yourself, you always fed us first. Then, when there wasn't enough of anything, you went without.
Thank you to all the Church Mothers. Those women of faith who taught us in Sunday School and those we sat with in church. When we didn't yet fully understand God's love for us, we saw living examples through you.
Mothers exhibit God's gifts of compassion, kindness, love–and yes, at times, correction. Through you, we understand what God means in answering prayers with yes, no (we never like that one), and maybe. Whatever decisions you make are to keep us safe and avoid undue hurt. And like God, no matter how much we mess up, you never stop loving us and are ready to forgive.
God, our Heavenly Parent, on this special day, we honor our mothers. We thank you for the many women who are part of our lives. We are grateful for their physical and spiritual care. Through their actions, we have witnessed your love. We pray for all those women struggling to cope with the frequent demands of family, jobs, and sometimes medical issues. We pray that you will give them strength for each day and peace in those stressful moments. We pray that you grant them the patience and wisdom to answer the millions of "why" questions. We pray this in the name of your Son Jesus. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
