“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:3 NIV
There is something very humbling when we realize we are without. Often this happens when we are in the middle of something. For example, that missing cup of flour for the recipe you've started or the absent screw from the Ikea shelves. You may scour the house looking for a substitute, reach out to a friend, or make a special trip to the store.
Jesus says those who acknowledge they are without in spirit will be blessed. We become vessels prepared to receive in this state of humility and emptiness. Sometimes we need to be in the middle of a mess before realizing the spirit is missing. Better yet, though, is to empty ourselves intentionally so that the Holy Spirit may fill us. To understand that we cannot function spiritually without Christ's presence.
Father, we come humbly before you today empty vessels. Fill us with the Holy Spirit. Let it lead and guide us into your righteousness. We pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
