Rebellion

Writer: timothyrsoutherntimothyrsouthern

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won't be doing what your sinful nature craves. Galatians 5:16 NLT

It's not unusual for children to spread their wings upon leaving the proverbial parental nest. All those things our parents said "no" to, they now experience their freedom to express "yes." Even when the reasons for their parents saying "no" is fully known. For some, this may be a casual flirtation with rebellion; however, this temptation leads to a deeper descent into sin for others.

This is nothing new, of course. Adam and Eve yielded to temptation at the first invitation to Eden's only other mortal-speaking thing. "You won’t die!"won't the serpent replied to the woman. "God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” Genesis 3:4‭-‬5. They become convinced and eat the fruit at this point, beginning humankind's" continual spiral into sin.

However, God doesn't want us to remain in this rebellious downward spiral of descent. Instead, he desires us to ascend beyond that state and to be reconciled and made whole. But we cannot do this ourselves; we need God's help. That is why the Father sent the Son to offer salvation and the Holy Spirit as our guide.

Father God, thank you for the salvation of Jesus Christ and the help of the Holy Spirit. Guide us today into the paths of righteousness. Help those living in the false contentment of sin. Stir an awakening and desire to abandon their sinful nature and seek you. Grant us the wisdom to help them. We pray this in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
