Remaining

"If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." John 15:7 NIV

Years ago, on a visit to our office in Alpharetta, Georgia, I experienced a tornado drill. Unlike a fire drill where you exit the building, you shelter within an innermost place of the building during a tornado. In our case, it meant heading to the stairwell and remaining there until we heard the all-clear signal.

When we remain in the Lord, we also find shelter. It is not a temporary place like the stairwell but a place of permanency as we hold his words in the innermost area of our hearts. There is more than just safety found in remaining; there is the promise that whatever we ask will be done. Does this mean we can ask for a million dollars, and we will receive it? Not quite, if we remain in the Lord, what we request will be appropriate; it will not be worldly but Godly.

Precious God, thank you for the offer and promise found in remaining in you. We come today with the desire to draw ever closer to you. Fill our hearts with your words and love. May the things we ask for not be self-centered and worldly, but the things that would advance your kingdom. May we always pray for your will in our lives. Please help us to always remain with you. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
