"He has rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son," Colossians 1:13 NRSV
Think back to a time when you were rescued. Perhaps you were stranded by the roadside with a car out of gas or had an unplanned expense with no visible means of paying. We've all had those experiences. In those times, we feel panicked and uncertain, fearful of what lies ahead. Upon our deliverance, though, we feel relieved and grateful.
Since the fall in the Garden of Eden, we have walked in darkness. Man's choice, not God's. Thank you, Adam and Eve! God, in His infinite love, has always provided a path of deliverance. He made covenants with Noah, Abraham, and the children of Israel. With David, God promised a coming king of his lineage who would rescue all humankind. Through the sacrifice, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ, we are offered deliverance from this earthly kingdom of darkness to God's empire of light. What a reason to be grateful.
Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of your Son, Jesus Christ, as our Savior. Although by our nature, we are sinful and dwell in darkness in your love and compassion, you offer us deliverance. Please help us share the good news of our salvation with others, that they may find rescue. Amen
How has God delivered you? Is there something you need to be rescued from today?
