Our names are essential to our identity. Our parents likely had healthy discussions on what name we would be known. As infants, we frequently heard our names spoken aloud and realized these large people were talking to us. We like to listen to our names used, and we have greater success in building rapport with people when learning and using their names.
God has several names Yahweh, Adonai, and El Shaddai, to name a few. We also refer to him as Lord, or Jesus Christ, the Son of God. By whatever name we use, there is power in that name. In it are peace, safety, comfort, strength, and healing. For his name is exalted above any other name in heaven and earth. Therefore, when we use his name, we do so with reverence and respect because we speak of the Holy One, our Creator, Savior, and Redeemer.
Holy God, we praise and worship your name. By your name, we have come to understand who you are. We acknowledge the power of creation, salvation, and redemption in your name. In saying your name, we invoke all the power which it holds. Lord, forgive us when we have casually used your name without showing reverence and respect. Help us today as we share the awesome power of your name with others. We pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
