Victorious

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 1 Corinthians 9:25 NIV

On Sunday, February 13th, many of us will be watching Super Bowl LVI. The faceoff between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. Even those who may not have watched a game all year will tune into the event. While we enjoy watching the game, it's not likely we've thought much about the hours of training that goes into that game. All those things happen behind the scenes, the hours of watching the film, coaching, physical conditioning, and running plays. At the end of the game, one team leaves empty-handed except for the experience; the other victorious gets the Vince Lombardi trophy.

As Christians, we also are in strict training for a big event, and we need to prepare. Our spiritual disciplines are training, worship, sacraments, study, prayer, service. Our victory will not come on a field but in glory, and our trophy eternal, not temporal.

Father God, we praise and magnify your name. Jesus said he would prepare a place for us, and he's coming back. While we wait, may the Holy Spirit open our minds in understanding, our hearts in love, and our bodies to your service. Please help us be prepared for that event so we may be victorious. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
