And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you. Romans 8:11 NIV
You may have noticed a medical device labeled AED or automated external defibrillator in public places. The device, simple enough to be used by anyone, measures the heart's rhythm and sends a mild electrical shock to reestablish the rhythm if necessary. While the person still needs to be attended to by medical personnel immediately, this quick action can save lives.
The Holy Spirit acts like an AED. Our hearts, dead to sin, require emergency action. Before anything else can happen, a healthy rhythm needs to be reestablished. Once a regular heartbeat is established, we can't continue as if nothing has happened; this was a wake-up call to a more severe condition. We can't go back to what we did before, changes are required, and the same Spirit that brought us back to life also keeps us alive.
Reanimating God, thank you for giving us new life through the Holy Spirit–the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the grave. You have brought us back from the brink of death into a new rhythm of righteousness. May we be ever mindful of your grace and this fantastic gift, and may our new lives demonstrate your glory. Amen.
