MRI

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalms 139:23‭-‬24 NRSV

Several years ago, after experiencing chronic back pain, I sought the help of a doctor. Among the tests he ordered was an MRI. This was quite an experience as I entered the confinement of the tube, lying still for 45 minutes while knocking sounded around my head. Though uncomfortable, the MRI proved helpful. The radiologists could clearly identify the issues from the images and suggest treatment options.

Understanding what happens within ourselves is a large part of our Christian journey. What makes us feel and act in a particular way? More importantly, is that consistent with what God desires? For example, we sense uneasiness; we know something is wrong but don't know precisely what, and we desire answers. While this self-awareness is a good first start, more is needed to solve the issue. We need the help of the Holy Spirit for further diagnosis and Jesus Christ to cure the problem.

God, examine us. Search our hearts and minds for wrong things and bring healing. Give us the strength, courage, and desire to change. Thank you for the Holy Spirit that serves as our guide and Jesus Christ, our Great Physician. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
