A New Heart

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”

‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭36:26‬ ‭ESV‬‬

At this time, Babylon invaded Israel, and many people were carried away into captivity. Even away from their homeland in exile, God had not forgotten them -- it was man who had forgotten God. Out of his love and faithfulness, he promised to deliver them once again and return them to Israel. Not only was he going to deliver them physically, but he was going to give their hearts as well. This promise of the gift of a new heart still holds true for us today. When we accept God, he takes our calloused, negative, and bitter hearts and, in their place, gives us a spirit of love and compassion. Like the Grinch who stole Christmas, our hearts grow three sizes that day! This isn’t a one-time event when we initially accept Christ. This is a daily renewal of our covenant with God so that we may continue to have a pliable heart.

God, we thank you for your covenant with us. Even when we have turned away, your grace holds fast. We are thankful for the gift of a new loving, and pliable heart. We ask for a renewal of your spirit. Amen.
