A Steady Rock in Shifting Seasons

“There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.” — 1 Samuel 2:2 (NIV)
Hannah’s story is one of the most emotionally layered moments in Scripture. She longed for a child and carried that ache for years. One day in the Temple, she poured out her heart before God and promised that if she were given a son, she would dedicate him fully to the Lord.
God heard her prayer. Samuel was born. And when he was weaned—still so little, still so loved—Hannah kept her promise. She brought him to Eli the priest and entrusted him to God’s service.
It’s in that moment, with gratefulness and heartbreak sitting side by side, that Hannah prays the words we read in 1 Samuel 2. Her prayer isn’t quiet resignation. It’s a bold, steady declaration of who God is—holy, faithful, and strong.
As her prayer unfolds, she speaks of a God who lifts the lowly, strengthens the weary, and guards the steps of those who walk with Him. These words are the lived truth of someone who has met God in the raw places of life. Her world had been shaken, yet she found her footing on the Rock that does not move.
Her prayer still speaks into our lives today. Trauma—whether sudden or slow—can leave us feeling unsteady. We may not know what comes next. We may hold both hope and sorrow in the same breath.
But Hannah reminds us that God’s character doesn’t shift with our circumstances. When everything around us feels uncertain, God remains steady—holy in His goodness, faithful in His love, a Rock beneath our feet, the One on whom we can rely on when our world is shaken. And that’s where trust begins—not in having everything figured out, but in leaning into the God who holds us
Trusting God in trauma doesn’t mean pretending everything is fine. It means leaning on the One who is strong enough to hold us when we feel fragile. It means trusting that God is present in the very places that feel most tender.
Gracious God, you are our Rock when life feels unsteady. When we walk through seasons of loss, fear, or change, steady our hearts in your faithfulness. Give us Hannah’s courage—to trust you with what we hold dear, to believe in your goodness even when the way is painful, and to rest in your unshakable love. Hold us close and guide our steps. Amen.
Grace & Peace,
Pastor Tim
