Anticipation

Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord! Psalm 27:14 ESV

You may remember the 1979 commercial from Heinz Ketchup, where two young boys sit at the kitchen table, waiting as the condiment slowly pours onto the hamburger. Finally, one of the boys, a guest, complains that it takes so long. The host boy responds, "wait 'til you taste it." The Carly Simon jingle, "Anticipation," plays in the background, "Anticipation, anticipation Is making me wait."

In today's scripture, David encourages us to "Wait for the Lord." Waiting isn't easy for most of us, whether we are waiting for something as insignificant as ketchup (sorry, Heinz) or something more consequential like a job or healing. The anticipation we experience while we wait for answers to our prayers is challenging and, at times, may seem the answer will never come. But be strong and courageous; the answer is coming. While we wait, continue to pay and trust in God's promise. Wait for the Lord, his response is coming, and we will be worth the wait.

God, we thank you for all your excellent and abundant gifts. We acknowledge we are impatient people who desire instant gratification. Forgive us; we pray, and grant us strength and courage in our anticipation. We do not know when or how you will answer, but we trust you will. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
