Anything

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 NIV

As we listen and read the news, the media would have us believe COVID is our God, that we should live in constant fear and bow in respect to the awe of its fearsomeness and allow it to prey on our anxieties fueling our depression. Let me be clear; I'm not saying COVID doesn't exist, and we shouldn't take precautions. Of course, we should. However, we should not allow our fears to become our God. When we allow anything to become an obsession, it distracts from our faith in the far greater power of God.

Today's verse is one of many in the Bible that tells us not to be afraid. Another of these is 1 Peter 5:7, "Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you." Our God made heaven and earth and has dominion over everything in them. Therefore, anything that creates anxiety within us, he desires us to bring to him because he loves us unconditionally. He does not want us to live in fear but in his freedom.

Father Almighty, we thank you for your unfailing love. We confess that we sometimes allow our anxiety to cloud our faith. Forgive us and help us to remember you are far greater than anything we may fear. We come humbly before you today, acknowledging you are our only God and trusting wholly in your ability to overcome our anxieties and to answer our prayers.

Peace and Blessings,

Pastor Tim
