Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:6 NLT
As we listen and read the news, the media would have us believe that fear should be our God. We should live in constant angst and bow in respect to the awe of those things outside our control–natural disasters and human-created calamities. And if we let them, these things can prey on our anxieties and fuel depression. But thanks to God’s grace, we can find deliverance through him.
Today’s verse tells us not to worry about anything, ANYTHING. God doesn’t give us a list of exclusions, but all the things that create anxieties within us–finances, phobias, sicknesses, storms, relationships–whatever it may be, we are invited to bring to him. He loves us unconditionally and wants us to not live in fear but in his freedom.
We can’t ignore the latter part of that verse, ”thank him for all he has done.” God gives us a wonderful gift. He answers our prayers; he brings peace to our anxieties. He quiets our minds and soothes our spirits; praising him for his love and graciousness is only proper.
Father Almighty, we thank you for your unfailing love. We confess that we sometimes allow our anxiety to cloud our faith. Forgive us and help us to remember you are far greater than anything we may fear. We come humbly before you today, acknowledging you are our only God, confident you will conquer our fears. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
