Be Ready

"You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” Luke 12:40 ESV

I was driving by the fire station near our house recently when an alarm came in. Very soon afterward, the EMTs shot out of the station, closely followed by the fire truck. The sirens were blaring, and lights were flashing, notifying drivers to get out of the way. Within minutes of the alarm sounding, they were on their way to respond. Whether it was fire, car accident, or medical emergency, they were prepared to answer any situation.

In today's verse, Christ reminds us that we, like the firefighters, must be prepared. Can you imagine what would happen if a call came into the station and the firefighters weren't ready? What if their gear was scattered about, or the truck needed gas, or they just decided they were too tired to answer the call. We would all be in trouble, right? As Christians, we know with absolute certainty that Christ will come again. We don't know the timing, but when He does, we must be ready.

God, we know you are sending your Son to us again. Only you know the timing, but we must be prepared. This time of advent is a period of waiting and watching and a time for us to make ready. Please help us as we prepare for that hour. Give us the words to share with others the message of Christ's return, so they also may be ready. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Blessings!

Pastor Tim

Every time we hear or see an emergency vehicle, let's offer a prayer for those responding and those needing assistance.
