"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you." Matthew 7:7 NIV
We encounter doors daily, opening and closing them often without thinking. They serve two purposes: to keep things out, weather, pets, and people, and to admit access. Under normal circumstances, the person on the inside controls who (or what) comes in. When someone knocks at our door, we may be selective on who we allow to enter. We may keep out the door-to-door salesperson or welcome a friend.
When it comes to the doorway to salvation, we have the choice of knocking on the door; that part always remains up to us. But unlike us, Jesus will always open the door. Jesus doesn't decide whether or not to open the door based on our appearance. We don't need to call ahead for an appointment. The only condition is that we come with a humble and repentant heart ready to accept Him as our savior.
Jesus, thank you for opening the door when we knocked. Thank you for your inclusivity. You don't care who we are or what we've done; all we need is to come with a broken and contrite spirit. You stand ready, expectantly at the door, waiting to welcome and forgive us. Help us this day carry your message of hope and love to others. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
