Drivers Permit

And without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6 NIV

At church yesterday, I was talking with someone whose granddaughter just received her driving permit. You may remember as a teenager, this is a significant milestone. Around the time we turn twelve years old, we begin counting down the years until we can get behind the wheel. We dream of the places we'll go and all the things we'll do with this newfound freedom. We trust completely that day will come. As earthly parents, we are pleased–and worried–when our children attain this goal.

We please God when we place our faith in him. We trust not only that he exists but that we can't exist without him. We are as confident of this as we were that we'd one day receive our driver's permit. Though the spiritual reward we receive is far more significant, it is not a laminated piece of plastic issued by a state authority but eternal salvation extended by our Heavenly Father.

Most Gracious God, by faith, we continually seek you. Not your existence, because we believe, but seek your face–that our actions please you. Thank you for the salvation in Jesus Christ and the leading of your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
