"Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." Psalms 107:1 NIV
My friend, Nancy, is a marathon runner. At my last count, she has close to 50. It's hard for me to imagine anyone running 26 miles, but she has also run at least one ultra-marathon, which was 50 miles. At most, when my knees were healthy, I could run 6.5 miles. No matter how much I trained, that was it for me. But then, I hit a wall and could not press through it; I lacked the endurance needed for the physical and mental challenges.
God has no such limitations; he endures forever. Can you imagine running a race from the beginning of time? Now that is an ultra-marathoner. Running alongside us when we stumble and fall, skinning our knees, God picks us up, brushes us off, and sets us aright as we continue the race. He has provided us with the Holy Spirit as our running coach. Sometimes the coach may tell us to slow down for that hill, pay attention to our breathing, and stay hydrated; all the running tips and tools we need to endure and run our race well.
Almighty precious Father, we give thanks for your love. A love that is not fleeting but without end. We acknowledge our human frailty and admit we often fall. You do not turn away when that happens but are there to pick us up. Please help us to endure and run the race you would have us run. We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
