“When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.” (Luke 13:17, NIV)
Have you ever felt like your days are overflowing and packed to the brim with activities? You may begin with a “to-do” list with twenty prioritized items. Before the day is done, you may accomplish half of the items without interruptions but likely have added ten more things to the list for the following day. We are confined by time–even if we sacrifice eating or sleeping to knock off a couple of more items, there are only 24 hours in the day.
And yet, amid our time-bound struggles, Jesus offers us a glimpse of a greater truth: all time belongs to God. In Luke 13:10-17, we encounter a story that challenges rigid notions of time. When faced with the opportunity to heal a woman suffering for eighteen long years, Jesus didn’t wait for a 'better moment' or let human-made rules define when it was appropriate to act. Instead, He glorified God by healing her on the Sabbath—a day traditionally reserved for rest. Through this act, He reminds us that God’s work is never confined by time, nor are we when our lives are lived for His glory.
God's time, Kairos, transcends the ticking of a clock or the turning of a page in our daily planner. It is the perfect moment when His will and purpose are fulfilled. When Jesus healed the woman on the Sabbath, He stepped into Kairos, refusing to let the rigid Chronos of human rules dictate His actions. Through this, He revealed that our schedules do not confine God’s work but call us to embrace every opportunity to glorify Him.
In this way, Jesus reminds us that every moment—regardless of human expectations or constraints—can be a Kairos moment. When we live with an awareness of God's eternal time, we can see opportunities to glorify Him in all we do, whether it’s a simple act of kindness, an encouraging word, or an unexpected chance to serve.
In our fast-paced, time-bound lives, it's easy to miss the divine opportunities right before us. We become so focused on crossing off items on our to-do lists or planning for the future that we forget the sacredness of the present. But Jesus reminds us to pause and embrace the moment, recognizing that every second is a gift from God—a chance to glorify Him. For example, let's say in the course of completing those items on your 'to-do' list, you encounter someone in need. Instead of avoiding eye contact or driving by, you stop and lend aid. In moments like these, we step into God's Kairos, letting His purpose unfold through our willingness to be present.
Being present means opening our hearts to God’s Kairos and trusting He is at work here and now. It’s seeing the people around us as opportunities to show love, offering kindness even when inconvenient, and finding joy in life’s simple moments. Just as Jesus healed on the Sabbath, we too can step into God’s time by being mindful of how He can use us right where we are.
To embrace God's Kairos, we can begin each day with a simple prayer, asking Him to open our eyes to the opportunities He places before us, even in the ordinary. By practicing presence—setting aside distractions like our devices or daily worries—we can fully engage with the people and tasks around us, trusting that God works through even the smallest moments. And as we go about our day, we can celebrate His grace by finding joy in the mundane, knowing that faithfulness in these moments brings glory to Him. In doing so, our days transform from hurried schedules to sacred opportunities, where every moment reflects His eternal purpose.
By being fully present and trusting in God's Kairos, you’ll find that your days are no longer just a race against time. Instead, they become a series of moments filled with purpose, grace, and the joy of knowing you are glorifying God.
Lord, we thank You for the gift of time and the opportunity to glorify You in every moment. Help us to pause, be present, and embrace Your Kairos—trusting that You are at work in the here and now. Open our eyes to see the opportunities You place before us and give us hearts that seek to glorify You, even in the smallest acts. May our days reflect Your eternal purpose and bring joy to those around us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
