You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3 NLT
Have you ever noticed what happens when we allow our minds to wander? Frequently, they drift to things we have little control over. What can begin as small things, left floating long enough, can grow into more significant fears, smothering any peace we had.
God knows what can happen when our thoughts wander, and His Word gives us encouragement and assurance.
I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:27
The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. May the grace of our Lord Jesus be with you. Romans 16:20
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 1 Peter 5:7
There is an old idiom, though not in the Bible, which is sound in wisdom, “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.” The same can be said for wandering thoughts. When we begin to feel that tug towards thinking about what we ought not to do, we must redirect our thoughts to God, the source of our peace.
Father, we thank you for the perfect peace we experience when our thoughts remain fixed on you. Like Peter on the stormy sea, we confess we allow ourselves to become distracted, and taking our eyes off you, we begin to sink in despair. (Matthew 14:22-33) Forgive us those times we pray, and help us to remember to keep our thoughts focused fixedly upon you. In your Son Jesus, our Prince of Peace, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
