"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." – James 4:7 (NIV)
Have you ever felt pulled in different directions—stressed by responsibilities, weighed down by doubts, or caught in habits that don’t bring you peace? Maybe you’re navigating a tough relationship with someone who always seems to test your patience. Or perhaps financial worries keep you up at night, wondering how you’ll cover upcoming bills. Life’s struggles may not always be extreme, but they are real.
Today’s verse offers a powerful path forward: submit to God, resist what pulls you away from Him, and find freedom.
True freedom begins with surrender—not the kind that makes us weaker, but the kind that makes us stronger. Submitting to God isn’t about losing control; it’s about trusting Him with the things we can’t handle on our own. When we let go and place our burdens in His hands, we open ourselves up to His peace and guidance.
At the same time, we’re called to resist the things that pull us away from Him. Temptations don’t always come in obvious forms. Sometimes, they show up as distractions, unhealthy patterns, or negative self-talk that keeps us stuck. Resisting doesn’t mean fighting alone—it means standing on God’s truth and choosing faith over fear, even when the struggle feels heavy.
And here’s the promise: when we surrender to God and resist the enemy, the devil will flee. That means the thoughts that tell us we’re not enough, the anxiety that weighs us down, and the habits that hold us back don’t have to define us. Through God, we can step into freedom, knowing He is always fighting for us.
How can we put the wisdom of this scripture into practice?
Start each day by submitting your plans and worries to God in prayer.
Recognize distractions or thoughts that pull you away from peace and actively resist them.
Lean into community—God often strengthens us through others who encourage, pray, and support us.
Embrace the promise that struggles don’t define you, trusting that through God, freedom is always possible.
Lord, today I choose to submit to You. Help me trust Your wisdom above my own, resist what pulls me away from You, and find freedom in Your presence. Thank You for Your strength and for the promise that the enemy will flee. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
