God of the Waves
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16 NIV
Despite having lived near the Atlantic ocean for nearly 40 years, we have only gone to the beach a few times. However, one of our favorite places to go is the Plymouth waterfront and look out over the vastness and observe the endless lapping of the waves on the shore–it is quite tranquil. During stormy weather, though, that same water can change quickly; the waves heighten, and the seas are harsh and cold. Then, as the waves crash on the shore, eroding the coast. Finally, following the storms, the sea settles, the tall white caps replaced by the gentle lapping waves.
Our lives are like the shoreline. Hopefully, the waves are gentle, although there certainly will be storms. But regardless of the size or intensity of the waves, God is also in those waves. He is with us in the times of calm and agitation, always reaching our shores with endless consistency and energy renewing us for each day.
Awesome God, of the waves and our lives, we praise your name. We give you thanks for each day you give us. You continually renew our souls with your Holy Spirit. Lord, help us use the gift of this day and all our days in your service. Make us what you will. Do with us what you will. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
