How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Psalms 133:1 NIV
Imagine the people of Israel walking up the street to the Temple singing together:
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!
It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.
On the way to church, they sing of God's eternal blessing when siblings–those gathered by his name are united. They go into church presenting themselves as reconciled people, coming before a reconciling God.
No wonder Satan delights in division; he doesn't want unity. He will use every tool at his disposal to create discord, hurt, and anger–anything that keeps us from enjoying the “good and pleasant” blessing God desires for us. Satan knows when we fight among ourselves; we weaken the body. The world can find hate anywhere, but true religion, that which represents God's Church, is a place of unity, love, forgiveness, and healing.
Whether going off to our public places of worship or praising God at other times, let's sing together for unity. Let's pray for the people of the universal church, all believers everywhere, ourselves included in that number, that we will have the strength and courage to rebuff Satan's advances.
Father God, you have claimed us through our brother Jesus Christ. We confess we have, at times, allowed Satan to create division. Forgive us those times. Help us listen and obey the Holy Spirit, rejecting Satan's advances against your Church. Instead, may we enjoy the blessing that comes with unity. May that harmony in our lives serve as a witness to those yet to know your love. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
