Good and Plenty

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. James 1:17 NKJV

In a work life, not so long ago, I would go to software conferences. There was always a giant expo hall where vendors would display their products. They would have free tsatskis, pens, notepads, thumb drives, etc., emblazoned with company logos and contact info. While they were gifts, they was a motivation behind the giving; they were trying to attract business.

God also has a purpose behind His gifts, but it isn't done as a hook to attract customers. His gifts come purely from His love for us and are only for our benefit. They are both good and perfect. God doesn't give imperfect gifts; he provides what we need–although sometimes we may not understand the gift and timing. His gifts are perfect because He is perfect.

God is consistent in His giving. Unlike those vendors who pass out their freebies once a year, God is continually showering us with his gifts, and they are as plenteous as the skies stars. God is also steadfast and doesn't disappear or leave us to fend for ourselves.

God of all good and perfect gifts, we offer our humble thanks. Help us not to take these gifts for granted but to pause and reflect on the extent of your love. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
