Hard Good Lessons

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it's painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. Hebrews 12:11 NLT

All those who enjoy being reprimanded and corrected, raise your hands. However, if I could see the responses, I would guess very few hands went up. This is because we don't like discipline. It makes us uncomfortable in the best situation; sometimes, it's downright painful.

However, while not enjoyable, it is necessary. Done for the right reasons, it serves an essential purpose. Correction administered from love and compassion is meant to redirect our paths. Though the lesson may be difficult, when we choose to learn something from it, the results are beneficial. We move forward in righteousness. Conversely, the results can be disastrous when we fail to learn from these experiences. At some point, the person administering the correction gives up in frustration, allowing us to go on in our reprehensible direction.

Loving Father, we thank you for your endless compassion. From your love, we sometimes experience discipline. Enable us to acknowledge this is done from your care for us. You desire us to live fruitful and righteous lives. Grant us obedience to learn from the discipline. Help us overcome our ego and pride to accept your correction with grateful hearts. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
