Hungry Lion

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 NIV

If you've ever watched a nature documentary, been on a safari, or gone to the zoo, the imagery of the prowling lion resonates. Last year we took our grandson William to the Capron Park Zoo in Attleboro. The lion was pacing and roaring when he wasn't giving us the eye. Fortunately, he looked well-fed, but I was still thankful for the barrier that separated him from us.

Satan, the lion, is constantly on the prowl looking for a meal somewhere, anywhere. He is indiscriminate about who he chooses; any soul helps satisfy, but not sate, his appetite. So he goes after us and our family, friends, and neighbors.

But, we have a barrier that separates us from the prowling devil–our faith. We can resist Satan's attacks through our deliverance in Jesus Christ and the sustaining strength of the Holy Spirit sent by the Father.

This doesn't mean the lion stops his attempted attacks. He still circles and takes the occasional swipe when our defenses are lowered. Our only response is to remain rooted in our faith. God is with us, giving us the courage and strength to persevere.

Most gracious and loving Father, thank you for the deliverance from sin found in your Son Jesus and the power of resistance in the Holy Spirit. Though the devil is constantly prowling, we know you are with us. You give us the courage and strength to stand against Satan. We pray for all those under attack by his viciousness right now. Though they may not yet believe in you, we pray for their protection and deliverance. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
