Kind Words

“Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.” — Proverbs 12:25 (NIV)

Though the pandemic was a few years ago, we still remember the echoes of that long season of isolation. Many of us remember the heaviness of those days — the quiet rooms, the empty streets, the ache of not being able to sit across from the people we love.

And yet, what helped us endure was often something simple: the sound of a familiar voice on the phone, Facetime calls with a friend, a family member reminding us we weren’t forgotten. Even “Zoom Church,” as strange as it first felt, became a lifeline — a way to see faces, hear laughter, and remember that we belonged to one another.

Today, although the world has opened up again, a different kind of isolation tugs at us. Our devices invite us to retreat into our own little worlds. The news cycles churn out stories that weigh down the heart. It’s easy to feel alone even when we’re surrounded by people.

But Scripture calls us back to something beautifully human and deeply Christian: the ministry of kind words. As members of the body of Christ, we are invited to speak life into one another — to be the voices that lift, encourage, and remind each other of God’s steady love.

Jesus modeled this. When the woman caught in adultery stood trembling before her accusers, he didn’t add to her shame but spoke words that restored her dignity: “Neither do I condemn you.” (John 8:11) His kindness didn’t ignore truth; it opened a door to hope.

So here is a kind word for your heart today: You are not alone. God sees you, loves you, and walks with you. And this community — your community — is a place where your presence matters and your story is held with care.

Perhaps today the Holy Spirit is bringing someone to your mind — a friend, a neighbor, a family member — someone who could use a kind word and a reminder of Christ’s hope. Consider reaching out. A simple call, a brief message, or a moment of genuine care may be exactly the lift their heart needs.

Gracious God, speak Your kindness into the places where we feel weighed down. Heal the quiet anxieties we carry. Make us people who lift others with our words, just as You lift us with Yours. Help us build a community where no one walks alone. Amen.

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Tim
