This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:5 NIV
Yesterday, we "sprang forward" with our clocks, getting an extra hour of light at the end of the day. Though the temperatures were chilly, It was a bright, clear day with lots of sun. Though not yet quite here, we could sense the rebirth that comes with Spring. It was one of those days when everything seemed better simply because of the sunshine.
God is light, and he is the source of light. He is goodness, holiness, and wisdom and offers us forgiveness and salvation, driving away the darkness. There is no darkness in Him because light and darkness cannot coexist.
However, we humans n try to live in an awkward place between light and dark. While our hearts earnestly desire the light, we are inexplicably drawn to darkness. We struggle between the tension of the two extremes.
While we wrestle with this dilemma, our situation remains hopeful. Recognizing this is our condition, that though we don't want to, we still sin, is the key to our deliverance. In seeking to live in the light amid the darkness, we receive God's forgiveness. Like the physical sunshine we experienced yesterday, we enjoy the spiritual light amid the dark days and have hope for the coming days.
Gracious and loving Father of light, thank you for the hope you give us. We confess our weaknesses and stumblings and seek your forgiveness. Deliver us from evil and guide us in our days. We pray this in the name of Jesus, the usher of light. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
