Lullabies

The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. - Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV

While we probably do not remember it, our parents likely sang to us at bedtime as children, perhaps the familiar Brahms lullaby.

Lullaby and goodnight, with roses bedight

With lilies o'er spread is baby's wee bed

Lay thee down now and rest, may thy slumber be blessed

Lay thee down now and rest, may thy sleep be blessed

Lullaby and goodnight, thy mother's delight

Bright angels beside my darling abide

They will guard thee at rest; thou shalt wake on my breast

They will guard thee at rest; thou shalt wake on my breast

The sound of their quiet voice calmed and reassured us, and the warmth and love of being held lulled us to sleep.

Like the babe calmed and assured by the parent's voice, our heavenly Father holds us in his love. When we are afraid, he quiets us. He loves being our parent and rejoices in being with us. In his voice, we find peace and rest.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for your tender love. When the events in our world, and our problems, become too much to bear, we have the assurance you are with us. In your compassionate arms, we find peace and rest. You do all of this for no other reason than your love for us. Please help us today to accept this love, and share it with others. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
