I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, Ephesians 1:17 NRSV
One of my favorite old TV programs is The Andy Griffith Show. With few exceptions, Andy was slow and deliberate in his actions. Some of this might be attributed to the town's easy front porch guitar-picking pace, but most of it was Andy bringing his wisdom and discernment to each problem, and it would take as long as it took.
We can all agree the slow pace of Mayberry is a thing of the distant past for most of us. Our information comes in a steady stream, and we often feel overwhelmed. Also, the world encourages us to rely on our intuition and make snap reactions, affirming it's okay to make wrong decisions and retroactively respond to any fallout.
God, however, encourages us to slow down–perhaps not Andy in Mayberry slow–but time to reflect on each situation and apply godly wisdom. To seek God's will, pray, and listen for his guidance in all things.
God, thank you for the gifts of wisdom and discernment. We confess we often make rash decisions based on human reactions. Forgive us; we pray. Help us slow down, come to you in prayer, and listen for your voice. Grant us the wisdom, revelation, and courage to make righteous decisions. We pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
