Nature's Delight

Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Psalms 111:2 NIV

Have you ever noticed how we sometimes see things without fully registering what we're seeing? I had this experience yesterday as I walked to the corner to do some errands. As I started, while watching out for cars on busy Bay Road, my mind was a million miles away dwelling on other things. But then, a flash of red to my left caught my eye, a handsome woodpecker flying from one tree to the next. Then, I began to register God's creation that was all around. Soon, my mental fog was lifted; those other things so important not long ago, I realized, weren't all that important.

What should have been evident to me became clear. It was one of those head slap, "Doh!" moments. In the hustle and bustle of all our days, we often fail to see God's magnificent works surrounding us. Instead of being amazed and delighted at His creation, we bury our faces in man's creation–our various personal devices. Our minds become so cluttered with our schedules and agendas that even amid God's creation, we fail to recognize his presence. Although he's there all around us, we miss the chance for a meaningful encounter—an opportunity to delight and worship.

God, thank you for the splendor of your works. Help us to open our eyes to delight and our hearts to praise. May we experience a walk-in-the-garden moment with you today. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
