Every four years in the United States, we have the privilege of electing a new president. Then for the next four years, we complain about the person in the office. We quickly realize that campaign promises were just that, promises. The party in rule becomes discontent that their gal or guy can't deliver on their expectations, and the opposing party is enraged because -- well, just because it’s the other gal or guy. But, even with its flaws, it's still a pretty good system once you discount agendas, egos, and human fallibilities.
However, a day is coming; we don't know when but we have the promise when all of the world's governments cease to exist. Whether it is a democracy, socialism, communism, a monarchy, an oligarchy, or an autocracy, all gone, replaced by God's kingdom. God's rule, unlike man's, will be one of righteousness where there is true justice for all -- no bickering, no conflicts, no favoritism. An end to sickness, death, and poverty, everyone made whole; fully restored into the likeness of God, a return to the Eden that Adam and Eve corrupted.
We don't know what His name will be, probably not God, maybe YHWH, but all will understand and speak it. There no longer will be a reason to remember countries and their leaders, for there will be only one kingdom and one Lord. One! The number of unity. One groom in union with one bride.
God, we look forward with great anticipation to that day when you are the one Lord over all the earth. Please help us prepare for that day in this here and now, to live into your righteousness. Take our imperfect lives, and make them perfect. Take our division and make it whole. Lord, help us as we share this good news with others. In our Savior, Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
