"I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:18-21 NRSV
This passage reminds me of the beautiful song by the Christian recording artist, Lincoln Brewster named There is Power, here are a few of the lyrics:
There is power
In the name of Jesus
There is power
Power in His name, whoa
One name, one name can save
One name, breaks every chain
One name, always
One name, Jesus
One name, one name remains
One name, we will proclaim
One name, always
One name
Last Sunday, we looked at Roman 8:38-39 where Paul writes, "'For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." Some years later, he prays that the church in Ephesus accepts the conviction he expressed in Romans. That they will acknowledge the fullness, "length and height and depth," of God's love, and in this acceptance will allow the power at work within them to advance the good news of Jesus Christ to all generations.
We have this same knowledge today, nothing can separate us from God's love, and through his power, we can accomplish things way beyond our imagination. The question to us is, what will we do with that energy? We are not to be a battery simply storing that power, but we are to perpetuate the good news to the generations. How will we allow the power gifted us by God to glorify his kingdom today?
God, we give you thanks for the power you have given us. Please help us not to squander your gift, but to use it to glorify you. In Christ's name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings!
Pastor Tim
