Patience

I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. Psalms 130:5 NIV

How many of us like waiting? Even the most patient among us — of which I’m not included—crave the resumption of normality; we want the waiting to stop.

In Psalm 130, the author cries out to God in despair (MSG), "Help, GOD —the bottom has fallen out of my life! Master, hear my cry for help! Listen hard! Open your ears! Listen to my cries for mercy."

Haven't we all been there? Haven't we all been so distraught at times that, in our impatience, we may have even doubted that God really cares?

But the psalmist continues, "'I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning." The psalmist expresses a deep sense of waiting and anticipation. Waiting for the Lord is not passive; it's an active expectation.

The psalmist places their hope in God's promises. When we face challenges or distress, we can find comfort by trusting in what God has spoken through His Word. Though the waiting is long, he remains faithful and hopeful to God's promises.

The question is not whether God will answer our prayers—he will, in his timing and according to his will–but our lack of patience is the challenge. Waiting can be challenging, but it's essential. Patience involves trusting that God's timing is perfect. We may not see immediate answers, but our confidence lies in His faithfulness.

Psalm 130:5-6 teaches us to wait expectantly, anchor our hope in God's promises, and cultivate patient trust in His timing. May we find comfort and strength as we wait upon the Lord.

Heavenly Father,

Amid life's challenges, we come before you, seeking patience and faithfulness. You are the God who never changes, and your promises endure forever. Teach us to wait upon you with unwavering trust.

Lord, grant us the grace to wait expectantly. As the watchmen eagerly await the morning light, may our souls wait for you. Help us recognize that waiting is not passive; it's an active anticipation of your intervention. Strengthen us to endure with patience, knowing that your timing is perfect.

Father, your Word is our anchor. We place our hope in your promises—the unshakable foundation that sustains us. When doubts arise, remind us of your faithfulness throughout history. You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. May our hearts remain steadfast, anchored in your love.

Lord, when weariness sets in, renew our souls. When answers seem distant, remind us that you are working behind the scenes. Help us cultivate patient trust, knowing that your ways are higher than ours. We surrender our impatience and exchange it for unwavering faith.

We pray all this in the name of Jesus, who exemplified patience and faithfulness during His earthly journey. May His Spirit empower us to wait upon you, knowing you are our refuge and strength. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
