Peaceful Places

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. Psalms 23:1‭-‬2 NLT

One morning not long ago, I took my coffee and breakfast and headed to my favorite "peaceful place" in Easton. Sitting on a bench, I peered over the rippled water, drinking in the lush vegetation and the mirrored reflection on the water. The sky was a perfect azure blue, with wispy white clouds on the horizon. The place was tranquil, and I felt so serene it was challenging to tear myself away and return to my work day.

We receive that feeling of peace when we read the Twenty-third Psalm. It reminds us of God's loving care and protection. We need not want for anything because he provides everything we need. He leads us into tranquil places–those green meadows and peaceful streams–where we need to do nothing except rest. It is a time of restoration and being fully in the presence of God, our shepherd.

As much as it's tempting to remain in that place, we cannot; we have things to do. But that time of quiet meditation and reflection, centering ourselves in God prepares us for whatever lies ahead. Our souls become refreshed and rejuvenated from time spent with our Triune God, Creator, Savior, and Sustainer.

Lord, our shepherd, thank you for leading us into those peaceful places of escape. Even if it's only for a short while, it's time we spend rejoicing in your presence. Help us make time each day to find that place of peaceful tranquility, even if it's in the car in the middle of rush hour traffic. Then, refreshed and restored, may we go forward as your sheep into the world to do your will. Amen.

Blessings,

Pastor Tim
