In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16 NRSV
Confession time, I freely admit I have become one of those people. You know, the kind of person who loves to share pictures of their grandchildren. Even if it's someone I've recently met, if they show the slightest interest, out comes the phone; with a few touches, it is easy to access all the pictures and videos documenting every visit. "Ah, look! This video is of Blair's first steps. And, these photos are from taking William and John to Capron Park Zoo." You get the idea. (Honestly though, if you want to see some pictures…)
In today's verse, Jestellsell us to have that same unabashedness and enthusiasm in shining our light. The words we speak, all our actions, are to reflect his glory. We are to raise our light high for all to see; we are a beacon, a city set on the hill, and the lamp on a stand. (v. 14-15).
The light of Christ has brought us out of the darkness; our candle, which stood unlit, became ignited with his flame. This soul awakening is a reason to be excited and joyful. Every day we walk with Christ is a spiritual photo-worthy moment to share with others.
God, we thank you for the light of Jesus Christ, who came into the darkness of the world and ignited our souls. Help us raise our lights so all can witness what you are doing in our lives. May all we say and do reflect your glory and our lives be examples of your unparalleled and unending love. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
