Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT
Usually, these devotionals are posted much earlier in the morning, but we, like perhaps many of you, lost power yesterday morning, and it was not restored until this morning. At first, I confess, I found this disruption annoying and inconvenient, but then I took the advice of this scripture and turned my thoughts towards thankfulness. Here are just a few of the things for which I’m thankful.
Warmth–thank God for the unseasonably warm day, keeping the house warm.
Shelter–I was dry and secure inside, safe from the wind blowing and the falling rain.
Safety–no trees hit the house or damage the property.
Transportation–I could drive to places with lights. Sure, there were a few road closures, but I was able to get where I needed (wanted) to go.
Food–I could light the burners on the gas range and make soup.
Restored power–I am thankful for those lineworkers who put their lives in danger by going out in terrible conditions so I might have power.
Dear God, thank you for all the blessings you have bestowed upon me. I am grateful for the gift of life, the love of my family and friends, and the opportunities that come my way. Thank you for the good times and the bad, for the challenges and the lessons learned. Help me not complain but learn from times of trial, the significant things, and the petty little disruptions, and remember that I should give thanks in all circumstances, as it is your will for me in Christ Jesus. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
