You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins. - Psalms 85:2 NIV
Psalm 85 is a song of renewal upon the return of Israel from captivity in Babylon. Its message is not just that of physical freedom but spiritual as well. A people spiritually separated from God restored. Indeed an occasion for a song of gratitude.
Thinking back to when we first gave our lives to Christ, we can relate to their joy. God forgave all of our sins, even those we were most ashamed of and purified our souls. Yet, though we try our best, we still sin, and when we earnestly repent, we are restored.
There is also the message of the need for revival. Not just as individuals but as a world to remember God's love. We need to carry this message of hope to everyone we meet. Some may need reminding, others to hear it for the first time. God is the God of all, and he forgives.
Awesome and forgiving God, we give thanks for your grace. We remember that day we became yours and rejoice. We are grateful for your endless love and compassion. Although we stumble and fall, you are there to restore us once more. Lord, help us to be your instruments for revival. Bless us as we carry the good news of forgiveness to the world. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
