“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” — Psalm 23:4 (NIV)
Psalm 23 holds a special place in my heart. When I was a child in Sunday School, we memorized Scripture and recited it before the whole congregation. Psalm 23 is the only chapter I can still remember learning by heart.
As the years passed and life brought its share of “darkest valley” seasons, I found myself returning to these familiar words—no longer as a child reciting them, but as an adult clinging to their promise.
In a world where evil feels loud and relentless—whatever we believe its source to be—it is deeply comforting to remember the God who created us, who sent his Son to redeem us, and who gives us the Holy Spirit to walk beside us. The Shepherd’s rod still pushes back the shadows, and his staff still guides our steps.
Today, take a moment to breathe in the truth that you are not walking alone. Whatever valley you’re navigating—grief, uncertainty, fear, or exhaustion—the Shepherd is already beside you. Let His presence steady your steps. Let His protection quiet your worries. And let His guidance lead you toward hope.
Shepherding God, thank you for walking with me through every valley, both the ones I name and the ones I barely understand. When fear rises, remind me of your nearness. When the path feels unclear, guide my steps. When evil feels overwhelming, strengthen my trust in your protection. Help me rest in the comfort of your rod and your staff today. Amen.
Grace & Peace,
Pastor Tim
