And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 NLT
In the world of technology, there is a principal single version of truth. The concept is there is one trusted source of data. You can run all the reports and models you want, but it does little good unless people believe the information is accurate. For example, if you forecast sales for the next quarter, you need to trust the historical data is correct.
Truth to the world operates under a multiple-version principle. We only need to watch the news for a few brief moments to know this is true. As long as you believe what you believe to be accurate, and I think what I believe to be true, then both must be true. Unfortunately, multiple versions of truth rarely exist peacefully; at best, we agree to disagree.
However, for believers, a single version of truth is found in God. Because of his holiness, he can't lie–that's Satan's job; he's the father of lies (Jn 8:44). Anything spoken by the Father, the words and actions of his Son, the guidance of the Holy Spirit into righteousness are all truths emanating from a single trusted source.
In accepting Jesus, we come to know the truth. What is this truth? That the Father, in his grace, sent the Son to atone for our sins. Through our belief in him, we are saved.
Father, thank you for sending us the truth through your Son. By our faith in him, we are saved. By the Holy Spirit, we come to know not some version of the truth, but the absolute truth, your truth. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
