Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NRSV
In service last Sunday, we discussed Jesus' transfiguration—the revelation of his divinity to Peter, James, and John. There is a lot to unpack in that miraculous event. Why only those three disciples, why did Moses and Elijah, appear, but much also remains a mystery. We can't explain the whole sensory experience, it's beyond our comprehension, but it's also part of who God is.
Today's scriptures are another example of something we can't understand–God's peace. How can he give us serenity amid turmoil? It's another of God's marvelous mysteries. While we may not know how or when we know he does.
God also doesn't want us to be stressed out and worried, far from it. He wants to give us his peace. While God is fully aware of our situation, he desires our invitation to help. The way we do that is through prayer. Giving thanks for what he's done, turning over anxieties to him, and trust.
God, we live in an anxious world. We confess there are times we don't know which way is up, but we know where to turn–to you. We thank you for your peace in these times of turmoil. We are grateful for all the prayers you've answered in the past, and we seek your help once again. Although we don't know how or when you'll answer, we trust you will. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
