Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving. Colossians 4:2 NRSV
There are times when astronauts need to leave the safety of the spacecraft. For example, sometimes there are samples to be collected or maintenance done. When they exit, they use a tether which keeps them safely connected so they do not float away. It's their lifeline.
Today's verse reminds us that prayer is the tether that keeps us connected to God. We must be vigilant in maintaining this cord, ensuring it stays intact. Without this constant connection, there is a risk we may become spiritually adrift.
We pray with thankfulness in our hearts for this spiritual lifeline. We don't have to go through anyone else; we aren't required to make animal sacrifices but can go directly to Jesus anytime and in any situation. We also rejoice because we have confidence our prayers will be answered.
Father, we come with thankful hearts, offering our praise and gratitude. In prayer, we remain linked with you and are guided by the Holy Spirit. Through Jesus, our Intercessor, requests are heard and answered. May we be ever mindful of the importance and power of prayer, praying without ceasing. We bring before you those things weighing upon our hearts. We pray for our family, friends, neighbors, and the world that your will be done in everything. In Christ Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Blessings,
Pastor Tim
